Krishna Janmashtami (10th August 2012) is a Hindu festival Celebrating Due to Lord Krishna’s Birth. Lord Krishna is an avatar of the god Vishnu. Janmashtmi is also known as Krishnashtami, Aatham, Gokulashtami, Ashtami Rohini, Sri Krishna Jayanti, Sree Jayanti or sometimes merely as Janmashtami. According to the Hindu Calender Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated in the Bhadrapada month on Ashtami tithi which happens to be the 8th day of Krishna Paksha’s dark half.Janmashtami generally falls between August to September.
On this Day Ras Lila, a dramatic enactment of the life of Krishna is a very special feature in the Mathura and Vrindavan (Home town of Lord Krishna). While the Rasa Lila re-creates the flirtatious aspects of Krishna’s youthful days, the Dahi Handi celebrate God’s playful and mischievous side, where teams of young men form human pyramids to reach a high-hanging pot of butter and break it. This tradition, also known as uriadi, is a major event in Tamil Nadu on Gokulashtami.
