This what I Call A True Sportsmanship

Brazilians may not have the best defense, but you can’t deny they’ve got the ‘golden heart’. In a video profile by FIFA TV Clovis Fernandes, a die-hard Brazilian fan said, “”I am their 12th player, I am the guy that cheers, I’m the guy that shouts, I’m the guy that makes promises.” Clovis has traveled to more than 60 countries to watch his team playing 150 games.

He was on top of the world. No one had ever loved a trophy so much.

But then came that first goal. And then the second. And then, the third, following the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh.

Defeated faces of Brazilian fans

Things were harsh. Brazil’s run at the World Cup was over.

But this man, whose defeated face was plastered across newspapers and television screens, knew when it was time to fold. For anyone who wants to know, the guy is somewhat of a legend in Brazil. He is known as “Gaucho da Copa” His real name is Clovis Acosta Fernandes.

A YouTube user captured this touching moment of the man giving his trophy away to Germany’s fans.

Reportedly, as he handed the trophy over, he said (roughly translated), “Take it to the final! As you can see, it is not easy, but you deserve it. Congratulations.”

He follows the Seleção wherever they go since 1990. He has been an enthusiastic spectator to 7 World Cups, 6 Copa Américas, 4 Confederation Cups, 1 Olympic Game. He has visited 66 countries and has watched 149 games altogether. So, he’s been to 3 world cup finals, Brazil winning two of them. So he will be all fine even after this devastating result. Source

Better luck next time, Clovis. There’s always 2018.
